Aids benefit Fashion Show

The AIDS Fashion show hosted by Black Student Union backed by PiCASO (Pitt County AIDS Service Organization) of Greenville, NC featured a story lined fashion show  and a fun new clothing line.

Using posters and youth themed ensembles, helped the audience visualize the need to reach younger crowds, particularly freshmen, with the severity of AIDS and the need to get tested.

The Afro Hippy Hipster

If you ever wanted an idea of what fashionable people of the 70s and 80s look like–here is a fine example of a beauty of now and then. This fashion expressionist is showing us its all about letting the old be new in doing you.

Applaud for the Afro and going green with bag. More note worthy is the play on of basic colors–the hues of blue, bold red, and a complimentary grey. A more adventurous tab is letting the shirt and pant be the foundation of the outfit while the multi-colored scarf and silver long ring, earrings, and necklace adds character.

Fancy huh! She plays neutral with the heeled oxfords and revisits the blue in her shirt with the same blue in her inverted pant cuffs. Professional. Ray Bans going strong since 1960 (made famous by Tom Cruise, John F. Kennedy, and The Blues Brothers). Retro-viewtiful.

Ecu Homecoming Fashion 2011

I would call this a little bit of old and new. I remember sporting a valour sports jacket a few years ago. This never really became a fad or a trend but was a favorite among stylish men of say 2008. The gentleman on the left is obviously still sporting his and I’d say he has good reason. In its own right valour, velvet, or silk jackets are classic. At one time Hugh Hefner was commonly seen in one.

The second gentleman is wearing a fresh inspiration for our time. Military jackets became a trend for us in 2009, first appearing in ladies designs, however, as men began to sharpen their dress we see things like.. Military jackets for men. Also thanks to outlets like Urban Outfitters, Aldo, H&M etc, Plimsol shoes have been resurrected for men.

As a sartorialist, I must remind the gentlemen of the basics. Fitting does not mean tight but it does tell whether you you know what you are doing when it comes to well dressed man. The “breaks” in a mans pants makes him look that much shorter and lumpy. Also, classy clothes like velvet jackets should be worn as close to perfect as possible. As it was in the 1850s it is now a fashion statement of importance, make sure your saying the right things.~Coul Monk
